(x + 3) (x + 4)
F: you take the first number in the parentheses from each, and multiply, so find x times x--> x squared.
O: multiply the two numbers on the outside, x and 4--> 4x
I: multiply the two numbers on the inside, 3 and x--> 3x
L: multiply the last two numbers: 3 and 4-- > 12
add them all together and you have x^2 + 7x + 12.
I like the technique-- I'm in calculus and I still use this

FOIL stands for First Outside Inside Last. It's how you factor (x+2)*(x+3). First = x*x=x^2, outside = x*3=3x, Inside = 2*x=2x, and Last =2*3=6. Combine like terms to get. x^2+5x+6. That is how you use FOIL.
