I was without power for 4 days a couple years ago from an ice storm. It was about 30 degrees & all we had was one small kerosene heater. The first night was the worst, I had 2 large trees behind the house and they were dropping limbs all night. We would hear a crack, then a lout thump as it landed on the roof. By morning most of both trees were on the ground. One limb about 10 inches in diameter and 12 feet long had gone through the garage roof.

You've got my sympathy. I did that 2 years ago during and after an ice storm. I sent the kids to people who had power and "lived" in the 108 stone farm house with kerosene heaters and cooking food and coffee on the grill for 6 days before power was restored. (I had to stay to keep the pipes and things from freezing.) You guys are having a rough time of it. Hope things start getting back to normal for you soon! (P.S.....many would say I was already "nutso", even with power ;)

Have done it. we now have a very large generator. wood stove. fireplace gas cooking appliances etc etc. We lose power far to often . I feel for those people as I don't recall it being 30 below for 5 days straight. Hope power comes back soon, take care.
Yes, I would be nutty if I was without the above mentioned items, but I'm told it would be a short trip to the nut factory.

I would be making a bonfire out of my furniture. How do people stand it? I was bitching to my kids that I may have to turn on the heater in the pool if we wanna swim today. The temp here (Hollywood) is down to the low 60's, with a wind chill factor to 59!

I guess I should be grateful to my grandparents for moving here in the 1920's. Of course, they came from Russia, where it was almost as cold as where you are.

I'd be thankful i at least have a house to live in. Some people sleep out in below 30 or colder every day and have no choice

Probably not cuz I have several coleman heaters and a few wood stoves and well I would figure out some way to heat at least one room and close all the others off.

I would be thanking my lucky stars if I had a wood stove for sure. We go through that kind of thing from time to time where I live, but so far, so good this winter. I feel very sorry for those people. It is not fun.

that happened to me once. thankfully, we had a gas stove, lots of flash lights with fresh battereys, and a batterey powered cassette player with some old radio shows to listen to. it was really a lot of fun!!
