The University of Michigan drops your freshman grades when they consider your application and it is unweighted. That means you don't have to worry if you got poor grades your freshman year but if you are counting on an AP 5.0 scale boosting your GPA, they take those on a 4.0 scale as well. This worked out well for me and it might for you. Factoring my freshman year I would have had a 3.5 unweighted GPA, without it I had a 3.9. I think the median ACT for U of M is 27-31, so you have to get pretty high up there. I took it twice. The first time I got a 28 and then second time I got a 31. So don't panic if you don't do well. Take it again. As far as after-school activities, I bowled and worked 10 hours a week. I was also in the National Honor Society. U of M really likes to see AP classes (even if they don't boost your GPA), so take as many of those as possible in the the next two years without hurting your grades because they are difficult. I took 4. Umm...those essays really distressed me because they are a lot more lengthy and specific than other colleges, so one day I bit the bullet and wrote each one of the shorter ones in 15 minutes and the longer one in 25. Looking back on them now, at least they were grammatically correct and had good points, but the structure was awful. I know you'll do better than me there and I got in. Good luck and GO BLUE!!!

Easily. The middle 50% of Central Michigan University students received a 20-24 on the ACT. Having a 3.5+ GPA puts you in the top 38% of the student body. Of course, admissions also depends on other factors like extracurriculars and your application. However, you should be able to get in there easily (and very likely with a nice scholarship).

ACT/SAT scores are at least as important as GPA, especially because GPA is considered more subjective depending on the teacher, etc. Work hard and take the tests more than once to have the best chance!

With that GPA you might get into the University of Michigan - I would suggest you bring your grades up higher - nothing wrong with that.
Good Luck!!!

If you can improve your grades and are a Michigan resident -- then you have a shot. If you are from out of state, then you will probably not make it -- since the requirementsare tougher for out of state residents.
---------------------------------
EDIT
When I wrote this, I didn't realize you were only a sophomore in HS. That gives you more time to improve your grades -- so you still have a shot ecen if you are from out of state.
