My nicknames Bear because my real name's Claire and it rhymes, plus I give bear hugs! One of my best friend's nicknames is Cookie because her name's Millie and all the places we shop have a 'Millie's Cookie's' resturaunt in, but also because she LOVES cookies and she's Cookie colour!
See your nickname doesn't have to be with what your name is, it can be about who you are too. Before I was known as Bear I was known as Bubz because I was always the youngest in the groups I was in and I always played the little kid a bit!
Nicknames can come from anywhere... Your name, your personality, good times with your friends, your traits....
That's how it came around with me having the MASSIVLY LONG nickname: Clairey - Beary - Quite - Contrary - Fletcher - Presley - Bubzi - Basset - HorneyBaybee!

Clairey-Beary-Quite-Contrary: All rhymes/the nursary rhyme
Fletcher: A joke between two of my friends in my English class when we were talking about commen last names and I thought that one was randomly hilarious
Presley: I regulary have a huge quiff in my hair like Elvis
Bubzi: From my old nickname 'Bubz'
Basset: From a joke in my chemistry lesson last year where I told people about my dream one night where I met Bertie Basset (the man made out of liquish allsorts on the front of the liquish allsorts packet) at a party and ended up...making love to him- no need to explain
Horney-Baybee: My last name is Horner and well...i'm not fridgid I guess.
See there are a lot of ways to get nicknames! =D
