I have heard that faster determine girls and slower ones determine boys. My friend's baby's was 148. What does that mean?

This has actually been a pretty popular theory in gender prediction for a long time.

The heart rate of your baby fluctuates as they grow and as they move. Heart rates start out slower, and then by 8-10 weeks run in the range of 170-200 BPM (beats per minute).

As your approach mid-pregnancy the average heart rates run between 120 - 160 BPM.

If your baby moves, his or her heart rate goes up, just as your heart rate does with movement. However, none of these is related to the gender of your baby.

A study was actually done to test this theory. The study actually shows that there is no correlation between gender and fetal heart rate. Although they did find a correlation between heart rate and gestational age prior to 9.2 weeks

If it was as easy as the hearrate to determine sex than why do we have ultrasounds to see the sex why do you see people whi thought they were having one sex then had another? Sorry, I wish it was that easy but its not.

It's an old wives tale that says if the heartbeat is under 148 I believe then it's a greater chance of it being a boy while if it's over 148 it's a greater chance of it being a girl. However, they've scientifically proved that this is not a sure-fire way of determining the sex of the baby.

The only 100% way to determine the sex of a baby in utero is to have an amniocentesis done...even ultrasounds aren't foolproof.

I have two children, a boy and a girl and their heartbeats were both at 150 so the whole heartbeat/gender prediction is an old wives tale.

Nope. Both my babies heartbeats were right around 150. My first was a girl, and this one is a boy.

I am not sure, but my midwife slipped while moniteering my baby's heartbeat and said "That is a strong girls heartbeat" when I was there for my third month appointment...

I'll let you know in 3 weeks if she was right!
