You seem a little fixated on punishment! Never hit for any reason, especially with an object like a cane.

Time out means the child has to go to a quiet place and be still for a certain number of minutes, usually the same number as their age. The naughty step is just a place on the stairs if that happens to be where you choose for time out. Sometimes they pick a place and call it the naughty spot.

The Naughty Step is what SuperNanny Jo Frost uses - the naughty child is sent to sit on one of the steps of the stairs.

Six of the best is six strokes of the cane either on the hands or the backside. Caning is not called spanking either when it is on the bottom or the hands

ah, more manure excavated from the Brit cane and cornhole crowd. Time out is just what it seems to be. Sit in the corner with yer turds and whey. Naughty step is what reserves and makes her in your mind deserve the the last of what you mentioned, which was typically six whacks (sometimes with a running start) with a birch cane (no bigger than your thumb) across her (optionally bare) backside.

Hope that gave you a woody.
