This was due to a botched assasination attempt of Saddam. In the 1990's the U.S. launched a cruise and tomahawk missile attack into the Iraq Defense Ministry in retaliation for a botched assasination attempt on the first President Bush. This country (U.S.) claims the moral high road and yet Saddam was hanged with humiliation.

Although I believe Saddam Hussein was a terrible person and his karma caught up with him, I have found that the Bush Administration does what they please, regardless of the Geneva Convention and advice of the UN and get away with it. Bush won his little vendetta against Saddam and we have gained nothing from it but thousands of dead troops and Iraqi's, civil war in Iraq, high gas prices and the disrespect of the world. The US under Bush cannot claim the moral high road, because we didn't take it. It has done nothing to stop or discourage terrorism, our target was supposed to be Bin Laden, see how easily Bush sidetracked America?

On March 16, 1988, the Kurdish town of Halabja was attacked with a mix of mustard gas and nerve agents, killing 5,000 civilians, and maiming, disfiguring, or seriously debilitating 10,000 more. The attack occurred in conjunction with the 1988 al-Anfal campaign designed to reassert central control of the mostly Kurdish population of areas of northern Iraq and defeat the Kurdish peshmerga rebel forces. The United States now maintains that Saddam ordered the attack to terrorize the Kurdish population in northern Iraq, but Saddam's regime claimed at the time that Iran was responsible for the attack and US analysts did not definitively reject the claim until several years later.

The bloody eight-year war ended in a stalemate. There were hundreds of thousands of casualties, perhaps upwards of 1.7 million died on both sides. Both economies, previously healthy and expanding, were left in ruins.

(The word paradox is often used interchangeably and wrongly with contradiction; but whereas a contradiction asserts its own opposite, many paradoxes do allow for resolution of some kind.)

Because research reveals that is was more than just "148 deaths" That was only one of the many things the court heard. The Iraqi court first tries the "Kurd" case and found him guilty. The court then moved to the other crimes that Saddam committed, but the first conviction was upheld and the death sentence had to be carried out within 30 days according to their law.

The cruise missile was not aimed at our own people. That is the difference. To make thing equate as you would like George Bush would have had to have all the Democrats in office executed because they dared to run against his party.

Are you starting to see how asinine you sound?

What part of Saddam was a mass murderer do you not understand. There's no paradox here. The Legally elected Government of Iraq tried, convicted, sentenced and ganged Saddam. HERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!

Do you miss him or something? If they tried him for all the deaths he was responsible for, he would have lived to be 285 years old!

No paradox. Do you fail to see the difference between murdering civilians & attacking the defense ministry of our enemy?

No, I see no paradox. Nobody has arms long enough to rationally pull these two personalities together.

Can't see it, sorry.
