12 - 2.5 - 1.75 = 7.75 or 7 3/4

okay you want to make all the demnators the same. 4ths.

12= 48/4 (12 times 4)
2 1/2 =10/4 (2 times 4 plus 2)
1 1/4= 6/4 (4 times 1 plus 1)

10/4 plus 6/4 equals 10/4

48/4 minus 10/4 equals 38/4

38/4= 9 1/2 acres
