Very odd question, but there is a word for it, and it's on the tip of my tongue, and I can't for the life of me think of it. Like, if you live in an apartment complex that belongs to a person and you pay the rent to that person, what are they called?

The landlord.

That would depend. In a normal lease arrangement, you would pay to the leasing company or directly to the "landlord" or "landlady". Technically this person would be called the lessor.

In some specific lease arrangements (found near the Atlantic coast of the United States of America and the island of Sicily off the coast of Italy) the person you pay in order to keep living in an area is usually called "Vinny" or "Knuckles". This payment is in addition to a normal lease.

That person would be the Landlord or the Landlady. And the person who pays the rent would be the Tenant (just in case you forgot that too)

The Landlord, or the Manager. (In some places, the Manager is called the Superintendent, or "Super" for short.)
