I am a single pregnant mom and I live in the basement. The landlord is aware of the problems to a point. I am scared to report them.. I asked them once to be quiet (I asked nicely), as they were keeping me up and they got really angry with me. They will know it is me due to the circumstances....

Reporting abuse is not only your moral obligation but in some parts of Canada your legal one. Reports are confidential and regardless do you want to one day have these children ask you why you didn't help?

No, no, no, NO! There is no way you should be going down this route unless you have very, very strong evidence that the children are being neglected or abused. And even then the social services should be your last resort, you should try befriending the family first and getting to know their circumstances before you judge them. If you can't socialise with them naturally there may be some friends you have in common you could talk to. A lot of young families are under extreme pressure and quite honestly it could be 'whatever gets them through the night'. Skunk is not a class A drug and they are probably not spending more on it or getting 'out of it' any more than better off families acceptably do on a couple of bottles of red organic fairtrade wine of an evening. Really think about it, how would you feel if the situation was reversed?

Hi, I'm a Teacher, and I reported a case of abuse 4 months ago, and I dont regret it.

But, are you sure it is "abuse"? Some people believe that any form of spanking is abuse. I personally do not agree with that. Many cultures, particulary African-American & African cultures--believe in spanking as a form of discipline for young children. Whereas many whites do not believe in spanking at all. I think its a matter of cultural differences.

But, spanking can cross the line if children are being severely beaten with force that should not be used on a child. I reported that case of abuse because it was 8 year old female student who's in foster care--and she came to school with a swollen, black lip and swollen black nose. I looked like Mike Tyson hit her. Now, I knew that was wrong--so I called Division of Youth and Family Services from the office. They came to the school, took her to a doctor who took photos.

If you truly believe that this is not a case of spanking--but a case of bodily harm through excessive force, you should call Family Services. You can look them up online in your state. They're not going to come in and remove all the children tomorrow. But they will do an investigation.

For my student, she was not removed from her foster home after I reported. I think they discovered that some neighbors kids had hit her with a brush. But I dont feel bad because I did what was right. Just tell them you want to remain anonymous.

Good Luck

How do you know it is abuse have you seen it?
How old are the children?
Are they beat or just yelled at?
You know you could do alot of damages to the kids as well.
What if they get into a foster home and get really abused?
Maybe you should dig a little deeper or move to another apartment.

My personal opinion is to mind your own business. It sounds bad but you have confronted them so who do you think they will blame it on?

Think about it thats all I am saying.

Tell your landlord you feel unsafe as a single pregnant mother and you would like to move to another apt.
Let him/her know that the situation is seriosly bothering you..

It may be terrifying, but as a parent-to-be, I think you of all people would be sympathetic to those poor kids. If you even suspect anything (and you claim to know for sure), you NEED TO REPORT IT. Please, for the sake of those kids, and abused children everywhere. If you believe you will be in danger by reporting it, talk to the police about you, I'm sure they will help to arrange something. Good luck!

I know I would be terrified if it was me. What matters though is that the kids stop being abused. Tell your landlord right away, for the safety of the children.

PLEASE OH PLEASE, report them! what if u were the children, u would want the pain to stop. they want u to call! they r probably praying for dear life right now. plus, once u call the police there is they can do to hurt you because they will be arrested. if i were u, dont report them while in the house because they could do something to u if they know police r at the door. Dont use the home phone-line because they can listen to the call, use a cell phone or just a different phione. please, it is your duty. you are the childrens ONLY hope.

You should tell someone. If you're really worried about them knowing it was you ask the D.C.S. to do it confidentially and if they ask you deny it. The children don't deserve to be hurt, and if their parents won't take care of them you should do it.

I know it's a hard decision, but you can do it. Be brave, and help those children live a safer and better life.

Tell the authorities and they can come up with a reason why they've gone round to their house. I think they'd do a good job in making up a reason so don't worry. But you do need to tell someone xx
