I am just wondering because my son has anger issues and i want to know if he learned this or is this something he is this way becuase it's in his genes. His biological father is an agressive person he used to beat me and i left him when my son was 11 months old and he hasn't been near me or my son since then.

Go to " behavioral genetics " in your address bar. You know it is a combination of both. Nature via nurture. Your son may have inherited aggressiveness, but you can channel that behavior into productive paths. Heritability is probabilistic, which means, we do not know if a behavior is heritable, due to nurture, both or neither. This is the truth of the matter, regardless of any social science pronouncements posted here.
PS Even if genetic, does not mean determined and unchangeable. If you had been fed poorly throughout your life, you genetically influenced height would have been altered. Do not confuse genetics with fixed, unalterable. Educate yourself here.

It can be a little of both. Some people may have a predisposition of certain personality traits, or behaviors, but those could have been brought on or triggered by certain events. Best thing to do it just find help for your son and be supportive of him.
It's that whole Nature vs Nurture issue...I don't think anyone really knows for sure.

It is definately learned. It is a result of the enviornment that he is presented. It could be anything from a family member to daycare or something he saw on television. Also your son will only do what he can get away with so if it is out of hand it may just be a discipline problem.

According to sociobiology, Genes do play an important part in bahavior (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociobiology). But sociobiology is a theory, and not everyone subscribes to it. Also, the "anger issues" you speak of may just be part of growing up. If necessary, you could send your son for behavior counseling--specifically anger management training. Good luck.

It is both. But since genetics are already set you might as well have learned as the answer because in that manner is where you can do the tweaking. The longer learned behaviors exist the harder they are to extinguish.
Best wishes to you.

i think that it is learned, the way a child is raised shapes the way he will behave later. since he experienced violence at an early age it might have some impact on his anger issues
