You need more information,
If you mean a right triangle, you still need either
the "area" of the triangle
the "hypotenuse" or
know the angle measures
before you can solve for the "height."
Examples:
* Area = 1/2 x base x height
A = (1/2)(b)(h) or
2A / b = h
If b = 6 ft, then h = ?? ft
(need Area then you can plug in b = 6 to solve for h)
* If
c = hypotenuse (longest side)
then c^2 = a^2 + b^2
* For an isoceles triangle
b = h so both would be 6 ft
* For 30-60-90 triangle
the sides are length
x, 2x and x*(square root of 3)

The only way you could figure out the height of a triangle from the base is if you also had the area of the triangle, or (for a right triangle), another of the side measurements.
With area: h = A/b (height = area divided by base)
Right triangles: a^2 + b^2 = c^2 (a and b are legs, and c is the hypotenuse; the base would be one of the legs, and the other side measurement would be the hypotenuse.)
