Note: Squared symbols are written this way on the computer ^ (press shift, 6) and don't forget the 2: (^2)

Question: f(x) = 4x^2-5, find f(-6)
1. Substitute -6 into the equation
f(-6) = 4(-6)^2-5
2. Use PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract)
f(x) = 4(36)-5
f(x) = 144-5
f(x) = 139

Solution: f(x) or y = 139

if you're starting with

f(x) = 4x^2 - 5

then all you do is substitute x = -6 into the formula.

f(-6) = (4 times 36) - 5

=144-5

= 139

just for future reference, squared is written ^2 when you can't get the actual symbol.
so:
4x^2 -5
4(-6)-5 < -24-5 < -29 <

just substitute the -6

4*(-6^2)-5
4*36=144-5=139
f(-6)=139
