OIL SURGE....applying the brakes causes the oil to rush to the front of the motor....check the oil level..it will need to be topped up...cornering at high speed can also cause this problem...on racing cars they fit "dams" in the sump to minimise this problem because they have loss of oil pressure even when the sump is correctly filled.....

Check your oil level. It could be that when you hit the brakes the oil shifts in the pan and the level goes below the sensor, if it is equipped with a level sensor. Another thought is a wiring issue. A friend of mine bought a car one time. The radio in it would only work when the parking brake was on because somebody wired the power wire for the radio to the wire for the parking brake switch.

most likely your oil pressure is dropping very low. you might try flushing the engine with one of the many products on the market and then adding new oil. This might help, otherwise you just have a worn engine. But as long as the light doesnt stay on all the time , only at idle, you could get many many more miles. you might also try a manual gauge to check the oil pressure. sometimes the sending unit can be defective.

Your engine oil is low and in need of a change. You may also have a leak in your gasket. Take it to get an oil change as soon as possible, DO NOT WAIT. Oil is the most important maintenance you can perform. If they discover you have a leak in the gasket, ask them to seal it. Also, some places offer free top-offs in between oil changes - go for it. Another tip, switch and STAY with synthetic oil. It increases the life of your car, creates a protective barrier, and improves performance (Plus you can go longer without having to change it - 5,000 to 7,500 miles). I know this because this just happened to me last week. I got my engine flushed out, a sealant for the leak (my dipstick was dry) and switched to synthetic. Runs like a champ and no more oil lights!

it sounds to me like your van has low oil pressure and when you step on the brake with the van in park it drops your idle down low enough to lower the oil pressure lower and cause the light to come on. you can try changing your oil and put 20w50 oil in instead and see if that stops the light. if it works then your engine bearings are worn.

low on oil ,when you step on your brake the oil in your oil pan flows forward and the low oil sensor senses no oil ,the oil flows back the light goes out.Have your oil changed on reg intervals that will probally prevent that from happening again ,also check for a leak, oil pan seal whatever..or use a heavier grade oil .

yup, it will most likely be low on oil. hitting the brakes is shifting the oil in the crankcase and making your oil level sensor go off. :-)
