I have pets and no matter how clean you keep your home, you just can't get rid of those pet smells...

Homemade ones. Take an essential oil in your favorite scent and put some in the bottom of a spray bottle. Fill up with rubbing alcohol (the lowest percentage you can find). There you go!
Be careful, it is flammable. Don't breathe it directly into your lungs either.
I like peppermint scent, cinnamon, and citrus to get rid of tough odors.

for store-bought ones, Febreeze smells really great but it makes my sinuses go crazy. Lysol isn't too bad. Oust smells good but won't handle really strong odors.

To really get rid of odors, though, its best to go to the source if you can find it and clean that.
Hope this helps!

One thing I like is a clean smelling house. I can smell a house before I walk in the door. (I have a keen sense of smell, it comes from growing up blind. I can see now.) That's one reason I don't have pets. It's just me, b/c I can smell them. But I have an Air wick Freshmatic in every room of my home set to spray every 36 minutes, I also have a plug-in in every outlet in my home, I also burn scented candles or use candle warmers as well and all of my cleaning supplies are scented. I just like for my house to smell good. I also use Tide w/ a touch of Downy or Gain original scent laundry detergent, depending on my moods. I like my clothes to smell good. But I also found that if I put a little of my Gain or Tide in a small pot on the stove and simmer it with water it fills the house with that fresh smell and my house smells so clean. I know I may be a bit obsessive about how my house smells but that's how I like it. I'm not picky about too many things but I don't like bad odors or germs. Happy New Year.

Natural scents are best for freshening your home, and will cover up that doggy whiff. However, many commercial air fresheners contain formaldehyde, which is used to preserve corpses and is a poisonous chemical.

Instead, add 10 drops of lemon pure essential oil to a spritz bottle filled with water and shake vigorously, then use to spritz furniture and curtains, or simply spray upward in the centre of the room. Make sure the spray doesn’t affect the colour of fabrics: test a swatch that doesn’t show before you try this.

A small dish with pure vanilla extract in it will neutralize unpleasant odours and add a sweet fragrance of its own. (Vanilla is anti-depressant, too.)

Try diluting essential oils in water in a mister spray bottle- citrus oils would be good at removing smells, or use an oil burner with oils. Buy essential oils, not perfumes. Air fresheners are made, generally, entirely of chemicals and have been associated with many ailments from minor headaches to depression. Especially avoid them if you have children.

When I'm painting an onion in a bowl does the trick for me. I haven't tried it for animal smells though. Another idea is one of those plug-ins with three odours that change alternatively so that your senses don't become accustomed to the same fragrance.

I've used both Oust and Febreze Air Effects to combat kitty stink. They both work well.

those candles that come with their own dish that melt into oil. I can't think of the brand, but it's the "quickly fill your whole room with scent" annoying commercial brand. Makes my house un-puggy for about a week.

I use Febreeze Air-Effects. Also try glade fans or scent stories. I have pets to.
