Love wholeheartedly - that's what its beauty is all about. Nowadays people throw themselves into the "all-about-me" syndrome and refuse to give a relationship their all.
If one has been burned by a bad relationship they (sometimes) look at themselves as being the 'weaker' personality. No one wants to be 'weak' or feel they've been hoodwinked so they throw on a false sense of security vowing not to give their all because they don't want to feel the intense hurt again. But such thinking is silly and instead of reaping the benefit of love - people are often spinning their wheels playing games among each other.

if u have been hurt and it took its toll on u, it certainly can and does affect how u act in the next relationship, right or wrong, u become more cautious, u choose more wisely, u suddenly seem to get wisdom, and can see alot more than u could before u went through the hurt. if u are scarred u will love again and give your love, but it will take longer to trust, as something was lost in the last relationship, think it's our innocence that goes first.

Some people gt hurt to the point that they are unable to love. This may only be for a little while or it may be forever. I was hurt and I am still getting over it after 1 year and am one that can not love another at this time. Maybe it will take me a while or maybe it will be forever. Who knows?

I understand how you feel- you become numb... it's like having a brick wall up, and it builds without notice...
I have learned to go into a relationship without expecting anything, just day by day. that way I don't get hurt. I can handle disappointment better than a broken heart.

I agree with what you are saying-your friend must be stung by a previous relationship and he is he one who is scared to go at it again.
