When you take a word like "favonian" and break it down (to: \fuh-VOH-nee-uhn\) so you can pronouce it correctly. Is there a name for the word break down?

Hmmm ... maybe dividing into syllables and including diacritical marks. Syllabication? But it is more than that ... I'm curious now .. if I find a more complete answer I will edit this one.
