Mayans (Who ran away AFTER they heard about Hernan Cortes)

The civilization you are talking about was the Mayan civilization and how that civilization eventually fell to the Spanish Conquistadors is up for some conjecture. I would suggest you read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayas for more information and a better explanation as to what happened to them.
The other group that was more in acendence until the Spanish arrived in 16th Century was the Aztecs which you can check out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztecs and learn more about them.

it depends- both the mayans and the aztecs lived in mexico. Most civilizations were wiped out by the spanish.

I think it was teh maya who lived in mexico. Nobody knows what happened to them. There are quite a few theories surrounding their mysterious disappearance. Google it or look on wikipedia.
