I guess you could call me a fabric artist. I make quilts, I love to do different things than the norm. A lot of times I'll get an idea from a piece of fabric, or think of something that isn't done, and proceed to make it either out of my minds eye, or plan out with sketches and drawings on paper. A lot of times I make my own patterns. I think a lot of it is determination, (stubbornness) but everything usually works out. (or if it doesn't I make it into something that looks like it's suppose to be that way.)I also have a diversity of things I do. This keeps me from getting bored with one thing. For instance, I carve wood and a lot of other crafts. If I'm making something to sell, I pretend it's mine, (if I don't like it I'll throw it away--have not thrown anything away!) it is mine til I sell (or give away). This gives me the freedom to be creative and care about what I'm doing. Also my Grandmother always said of her crotchet work "I'm just playing" and encouraged me to relax and have fun with whatever was "in that creative mind of mine". Sometimes I do have to take a little break, do something totally unrelated (like make a cake), that gives me time to clear my mind and forget pressure I might put on myself. Hope you can find something in here to help!

i am a writer.... and i don't stay motivated. i let the motivation come to me. you can't force art of any kind: if you do, it isn't really art... well, it may still retain some form of the beauty you set out to create, but the compulsion that made you do it bled away, and you just did it because you HAD to, under pressure, it will deter from the art itself, and become less of itself.
but if you really want to stay motivated, just THINK to yourself that you're really EXCITED about whatever you're doing. talk about it positively, like "My main character's really coming along, she's so interesting to write and explore," things like that. Be excited about what you do, don't down-talk it... and if it somehow does lose its shimmer, don't worry. set it aside, but don't trash it, leave it there perfectly preserved (you may come back to it someday) and move on to something else! and if that doesn't work, you just have ADD, and there's nothing i can do for you, because medication is WEAK!!!!!

I'm a novelist. Writing is the only occupation I ever considered (I worked for several years in journalism and the publishing industry).

I am a photographer...I stay motivated by totally focusing on the task at hand. If I can't find any inspiration, I just take a SHORT break and come back a little later...hope it helped!
