I live in California, USA and I LOVE Dr Who , sadly we're 6 months behind. Season 3 hasn't started yet.
but i was wondering if you had to compare their level of celeb status to people in the USA...who would you compare them to?!

Well, errr, the thing is , not everyone is into " celeb" status, in fact, the more "celeb status" actors get , the less peer respect they seem to get.
We are pretty cool about letting actors have normal lives in the U.K., so unless the Paparazzi get onto them ,the rest of us just let them go down the pub, do their shopping etc, in peace.
However , as an actor David Tennant is well respected, check out the series he did " Casanova" with Russell Grant prior to Dr Who.
And I am videoing Billy Pipers new BBC drama " The ruby in the smoke" tonight as , she seems to be shaping up into a fine actress....
So, I don't think I've really answered your question , it's just that , it's only a job, so don't hassle people who do it !

The Christmas episode featured a comedienne called Catherine Tate. She was only in it as far as I am aware for this episode as the Doctor gets a new assistant when series 3 starts. We are still waiting for that to happen also. I do know that David Tennant has asked to leave half way through series 4 though. As for comparing their celebrity status with those in the US, it's difficult to know who to compare them to.

i think of that they probable had some thing happening....curiously, Billie Piper used to call him David "Ten inch" Tennant on the set of well-being practitioner Who, because of the fact she suggested he had a huge penis. How would she understand that in the event that they hadn't have slept together :)

thats hard to compare as i dont know how famous americans are over there.
dr who is a fairly popular program and is shown at a prime time on BBC1(i think, may be bbc2)
shes more famous for having a pop career and marrying chris evans (who was a very popular tv presenter and radio personality), and then drinking alot and divorcing him.
david is only famous for dr who i think.

they are quite big here if you go to www.bbc.co.uk/drwho you can get previews of the episodes you haven't seen, personally i think that Chris Ecleson was better than David Tennant...

I think they are great.
I've been traveling with the Doctor since 1976, but he won't let me play with the sonic screwdriver.
