I always wait around half an hour so the new water I put in has a chance to completely mix with the old water.

Why are you waiting in any respect? do merely the try... The nitrate point is what it is, it is not going to alter after 2 hours, or be very distinctive the next day. try the water now, examine the point, if it is high quality, go away issues for each week. If the point remains too intense, do yet another water replace and take a examine out lower back the next day. Repeat till the point is stable. Ian

I saw someone say every three days... that's only really necessary for a salt water tank... and only when introducing new fish... you should be able to test your water almost immediately... wait a couple minutes if you want...

There is no reason to wait, you can test any time after the water change.

I recommend testing weekly during the cycling process and monthly after that.

Testing is always appropriate. I even test the water I am about to add just to be as sure as I can, that it is OK.

Whenever you want, it does not matter. You can do it right away or wait a few hours, whatever you want.
