I will be having my ultrasound next week and I'm on the 9th week of pregnancy. Would I know the gender of the baby already?

No, sorry... You can't really tell until the 16th week. Doctors usually schedule you for your second sonogram around 20-25 weeks. The males testicles actually do not descend down until after the 16th week and boys and girls look pretty much the same until this time frame. Girls are really swollen down there when they were first born. So, now I know why they say they can't tell the difference until after the sixteenth week. I am 36 weeks pregnant now and for both my children I had the second sonogram at 25 weeks.

21 weeks is a better time than 17 to find out what you are having. Save your recepits though because they do make mistakes! As for your doctor visits they can get really tedious. Wait till you start to go every 2 weeeks then every week! You wait 20-30 minutes and then see the doctor for 20-30 seconds. They have certain tests they do at certain weeks and the visits in between are routine. Mostly just doppler and measuring. Don't worry though, if there was a problem you'd know. As first time mothers you expect so much more excitment or something when you see the doc, but thats not how it really is! Good luck with the baby!

The babies genitals are just starting to develop. Usually around the 15th week is when you can see the sex of the baby maybe the 12th week but they are still so small that the tech probably wouldnt even look. That is if the baby is in the right position. Some parents never know the sex because the baby "hides" his/her parts from the ultrasound tech.

Your lucky. Im 10 weeks pregnant and my doc doesnt see patients that arent high risk until they are 12 wks so I havent even heard the heartbeat yet. Congrats and enjoy seeing the first images of your baby!

Nope. At 9 weeks, they are only about the size of a peanut or so. Maybe about 20 weeks along they will be able to tell. At my ultrasound, I was 20 weeks and they could tell then, but the baby was so very small.

no way. not til 16 weeks at the earliest. Usually the comprehensive ultrasound is done between 18 and 20 weeks, so that's when you find out. The baby's sex organs are not even developed at 9 weeks.

Probably not. When I had my ultrasound at 12 weeks the technician had an idea but said it was still way too early to conclusively tell, so she wouldn't even tell me what she thought my baby might be (turned out to be a girl!).
By the way, here's a good site about pregnancy, it's very informative and it's fun to look up stuff about your baby's development: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pregnancy/PR99999

No. Not until around the 12th week. A more clear view though would be during the ultrasound done between 18-22 weeks.

Good luck and congrats!

nope, not until the 18-20 week. I'm going next week for an 8 week ultrasound :) We'll see the heartbeat and they'll measure the baby. Best of luck to you!

Nope sorry but bubs is just the size of a jelly bean, I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks and you can't see very much. You have to wait until you are halfway along. But all the best and well done, enjoy your experience.

lol not even close-
doctors wont even waste the time scheduling you for your 'big' one until 20+ weeks.
I had mine at 19 weeks, because that is when my dr. appt fell for that month--even at 19 weeks-the girl had a bit of a hard time telling me if it were a girl or boy.
