Well....all I know just in case you do get stretch marks....get cocoa butter or some cream for pregnant people that will help with your stretch mark so it doesn't show. My friend gained all the weight in the last 3 months and she doesn't have any at all. Just get some cream and cocoa butter and put it on and you'll be fine. congrats!

Yes you really need to gain about that much because that weight breaks down to fluid gain, the placenta, and the baby. Not having a healthy diet can greatly effect the health of the unborn child. Follow the doc's advice and worry later about the stretch marks. Besides there are creams ( mederma and palmer's) that help target not getting stretch marks. If you do end up with stretch marks, just consider them the first battle scars in the world of parenting.

The amounts your doctor has given you are acceptable amounts. Use the cremes on the stretch marks. Just work at having a healthy baby. If you were gaining too much weight the doctor would be monitoring that as well. Lots of factors regarding mother and unborn child.

It looks like you have some good advice here on why you need to gain the weight, so I will skip that...
I would take a bath in baby oil, or rub the baby oil gel on my skin after a shower -- I have a few marks on my hips, but none on my belly at all.

Yes! It is essential to gain that amoutn of weight. That is about average.
It is broken down like so:
7-8 lbs weight of baby
1-2 lbs placenta
1.5 - 2 lbs amniotic fluid
2 lbs increased since of uterus and supporting muscles
1 lb increase of breast tissue
1.5-3 lbs increase of blood volume
5 lbs increase of fat stores (extra energy for the baby)
5-7 lbs increase of body fluids
Totalling about 24-30 lbs!
If you're worried about stretch marks, use Vitamin E on your abdomen during yoru pregancy. It will help decrease the appearance of stretch marks!
Good luck and Congratulations!!

i gained 38 pounds with my first child and had no stretch marks-this really has to do with heredity, ask your mom if she got them while prego...I also was religously rubbed baby oil on my stomach everyday while in the shower
