I recently moved from Chicago and here's what I didn't expect:
Not only are there lots of homeless people, lot's are lazy kids who don't want to work for their drug money (not Viet Nam vets)
People drive worse here than in Chicago.
Nothing is conveniently located. Somethings are non-existant.
Too many hills!
Buses take forever! No CTA:(
People are not as smart as I'd envisioned.
Jobs are harder to find than in Chicago.
There are some here who still think Grunge is in. No, really.
Did I mention the hills?
I could think of more but basically you'll either like it or not. You'll never know til you try.

Well, kind of depends on what part of seattle you are moving to, since it's rather a large city and only the city central is the 'big city' part of it. I guess in terms of what you should know, it dosent rain every day like people like to say.. it does rain often , usually drizzle but it's not bad. In terms of inside the city itself, traffic can be bad, getting in and out of the city via the freeway because of work traffic, and there are a lot of 1 way streets. Public transportation is quite useful inside the city since it's easier to get around and in the more popular sections of the city, the bus ride is free. Also be sure to bring warm clothes as it can get pretty cold here besides the rain. Also, Seattle is quite more expensive a city to live in compared to other cities in Washington, so be sure to be ready for that.
Other then that, there are a number of places you should visit when you move to seattle. The Seattle Space Needle, The Seattle Center, Experience Music Project, Pike Place Market, International District, Mr. Raineer or St. Hellens, and alot of nature related places to visit in Washington.
Just be ready for friendly people, sometimes crazy traffic, and alot of scenic nature views.

Buses are the easiest way to get around IN the city. They are free inside the city and take you pretty much everywhere. There are lots of hills but you get used to it after a while. If you like coffee theres a coffee shop on every block (no joke) Lots of bums but they seem to hang out in clumps. (Pioneer square and pike place market..thats where all the people are) It does rain but not as much as people say it does. People arent mean but they dont jump at the chance to talk to you either...theyre mostly trying to get from point A to point B. All of the stupid drivers are the people that dont actually live IN seattle. Lots of art to look at and elliot bay/puget sound is a beautiful sight. You can pretty much go anywhere and do anything by walking :)

You pay to park in alot of places. It rains all the time here. There is plenty of traffic.
I am from S.C. so to me this is alot of rain. We only get about 3 months of sun.
