Is it good? What is it about?

It is a good book, but then I'm partial to the author being that she is my favorite! :) However, it is a lighter, sillier book than any of her others. In fact the movie that came out in the 90's starring Alicia Silverstone, called "Clueless" was based on Sense and Sensibility. It's quite different in many aspects but similar in some ways. If you are a Jane Austen fan you should definitely read this book. Oh and in case you haven't already I highly recommend Mansfield Park by Austen, it is my favorite!

"Sense and Sensibility" is a domestic novel written by Victorian author Jane Austen. Here's what that means: the Victorians were social activists, by and large. They saw injustices in society and did their best to draw attention and remedy those injustices. One of the best examples of doing this successfully is Charles Dickens, who not only helped develop child labor laws but also championed the cause of orphaned children in London. The Domestic Novel is a particular tweak to the Victorian theme, and Austen was one of the better writers in that convention. Domestic novels tend to have to do with households. They are usually heavy on character development, light on exciting plot, so if you're expecting a sword fight or a car chase, put the book down and walk away. But if you really want to get to know the characters you read about, Austen's your gal. Also, if you'd like to learn how to play whist (an antiquated card game), there's no better place to start.

One interesting note about Jane Austen: she never wrote a scene exclusive of female characters. In other words, she never wrote a dialogue or a set of actions between 2 or more male characters when there wasn't a woman present. Her reasoning was that, since she was a woman, she couldn't know exactly how men spoke to each other when they weren't in a woman's company.

I hope that helps--

IT'S GREAT! It's absolutely hysterical in parts and heartbreaking in others. A good version of the movie that sticks relatively close to the book is the 1995 version with Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet.

Yes it is a good, funny, romantic, smart story about a family of women with no inheritance who are trying to find love, with fairly bad luck.

Yeah it's good. Pride and Prejudice is better, though.
