I don't like the melody. --But they say the song "Strange Fruit", about racially motivated lynching in the South, which Billie Holiday introduced, had an impact on listeners who were in denial or unaware that stuff of that kind STILL happened in the 40s when it came out. It may not be the greatest song, but it's an important and necessary one.

stairway to heaven by led zeppelin.. it is an awesome song, although the message can be a bit hard to interpret exactly. fade to black by metallica gives us a good understanding of how people feel when they are going through a tough time and want it all to end.. and is packed with a hell of a lot of emotion.
