There are tons of places to try and get into the Video Games industry. Most involve some form or another of college education. Some major careers are as follows.

Programmer: Computer programmers are probably one of the "easiest" places to get involved in the industry other than tech support. Get a degree in Computer Science or Computer Systems Engineering from a major university and try and catch on here, some places only hire from within so you may have to put in your dues as a tach support operator first. A specialty in programming on distributed computing platforms might help if you are gearing toward the MMORPG boom.

Graphics Design Artist (3D): A bit harder as there are many starving artists out there, but getting a degree in computer animation can help, you might actually need to have some artistic talent though so if you don't, don't bother. Try to push yourself though fi you are trying this, at the beginning you won't be designing your own games so try to recreate other peoples art and real world objects in you spare time and build up a strong portfolio of work.

World Builder/Creative Designer: This is where alot of people see themselves. Problem is, there aren't alot of these guys on each project. If you really want to get to this echelon quickly, try getting in a newly founded/developing company or start your own in your free time.

QA/Test: There actually is alot of testing that goes on before a product hits the shelves, this kind of job may be less glmorous than some of the others but it takes an attention to detail that many find cumbersome. Not alot of game houses have a seperate division for this, preferring to have the QA be done by the devlopers, but it is a job in the industry.

There are many other jobs such as support roles but these are the main ones that are specific to this inustry.
