This depends on where he is located and what type of work he does. (as well as how long he has been doing it for).
For example: my company does work in New York - nonunion. We install drywall in high-end homes. If a new employee wants to get paid for installation only (i provide materials) in high-end residential - I will pay him either $12-$15 per board or about $0.25-$0.31 per square foot or $25 per hour average to start. This is for someone that is a mechanic with at least 10 years experience. I pay well in comparison to most companies in NY.
Regular residential or commercial jobs pay much less. I wont even bid on those jobs because most drywall companies hire illegals and do not have them itemized on their workers comp. These other companies can give prices that are below my cost.
IT IS USUALLY THE COMPANY THAT DETERMINES HOW THEY PAY THEIR GUYS. SOME PAY OFF THE BOOKS. SOME PAY ON THE BOOKS. SOME PAY AS 1099'S OR CONTRACTED EMPLOYEES EVEN THOUGH THEY DONT HAVE THEIR OWN INSURANCE. SOME PAY BY THE SF, THE BOARD, OR THE HOUR OR THE DAY.

It depends if you are a from the USA or an illegal immigrant from Mexico. Usually paid by piece work. If you are just hanging dywall, Then $8.00 a sheet.... if you are an illegal Mexican the 20 cents per sheet since you do not have to pay taxes or pay for our roads, ifrustructure, power, government, welfare, food stamps, prisons.... If you are from the USA then you should spackle to... thats where the money is!

"paided"? Let me guess - English is not your long suit, is it? If your husband is doing the work then he should know how much he should be getting paid. Tell him to ask at the Union Hall.
