Edward Norton. He can have the tough bad guy look and the gentle hurt-inside guy look both very convincingly as Holden would be.

I think Jake Gyllenhaal would also be a good choice as well as Ryan Gosling. I know Holden is a young guy. Both of these guys are still in their twenties and if they have the right hair, make-up and wardrobe they can look much younger.

That's kind of a pointless question. Catcher in the Rye won't be made into a movie because J.D. Salinger refuses to sell the rights of the book to a screenwriter. He thinks it would be betraying Holden.
But because you asked, all of the actors you've chosen are going to look too old. Holden is a teenager in the book. You need to aim for someone younger.

Well remember Holden is really young so someone young and fairly unknown. The only known actor I could picture is that main guy from the OC. Ohh, or Mucalay Culkin! Actually that I could really see and he is a good enough actor.

There is no young actor with the pyschological depth and intelligence that Holdn has.
The part is unplayable, just as making a film of the book wouldn't work.

I think Leonardo di Caprio would be a good choice. He still looks young enough to pull it off.

no, no, no, it has to be someone that is both smart, yet, interestingly psycho. and still alive. So..i think you should go with a younger version of Mel Gibson, that blonde long-haired dude from Clerks, or Tim Roth (look him up), or adam sandler.

How about that guy from heroes -- he played in Rocky Balboa as Stallone's son. The name escapes me.
