Yes, it could be, it definately sounds like spotting to me. It could be also pink, orange or red. It's quite common during pregnancy and it's not necessary a bad sign.
It could last few days or few weeks, it could be off and on.
It depends what is causing it.

Are you pregnant?

Make sure you are going for regular check ups. It could be a sign of an infection. When your blood is red "RED" it is fresh blood, when the blood is dark, or brownish it is old blood or blood that is farther up inside your uterus. Dont worry, just remember your period is the cleansing of your body. Just make sure you get your regular check ups and you will be fine. Please look at my profile..... I have had cancer, I know how important these check ups are, and how well you need to know your body. The more you know why your blood is darker or if its heavy or light flowing, if your periods are late or ealry, the better off your gonna be later in life.

Brown spotting is older blood over a few hours old. if you are not menstruating fast enough - it can last up to 7 days

I am 18 weeks pregnant with twins. This happened to me about 4 weeks ago. I called my Dr. and she told me that it is blood, but it's not a concern because it's "old blood" and unless it is accompanied by cramping and turns to regular bright red blood, then don't fret. BUT STILL CALL YOUR DR. TO LET THEM KNOW. It could be important if something does progress!!

I had brownish spotting during the time my period was to come. Nothing since then. Did you have sex around the time of ovulation? You may want to take a hpt or go to the DR.
