Ok, I am 38 weeks preggo. About 2-3 weeks ago i was 1 cm dialated and 80% effaced, and at a -1 station. The last couple of days i have been having bad cramping, like really bad period cramps. They are not timeable, they just come and go. I have also had all loose stools. The baby seems like its not moving a lot either. Could this mean labor? Should i call a doctor?

You should call the doctor if the baby is not moving. Otherwise, you just wait and see. Loose stools and cramping are the signs of early labor, though. Good luck!

Every pregnancy is different. I am 36 weeks and have had labor pains for two weeks. They even got to 1 1/2 minutes apart, I am 50% effaced and no dialation. You are in the early stages of labor though. I went to the hospital when the contractions were steady five minutes apart for my first child and was in hard labor after that for the next 8 hours until the doc came in and broke my water (I was dialeted 5 or 6). So, your water doesn't always break. I would let your doc know what is going on, and get to the hospital when you are able to time your contractions (that is what the teacher in the labor class said 5-1-1). When the contractions are five minutes apart lasting for one minute for one hour. (Sometimes the hour doesn't come into play, if it gets more intense or closer I would just go to the hospital). I hope this helps. My doctor took me off of the meds to stop labor today, so I may be having mine soon. He already weighs ten pounds, and I have gestantional diabetes, so I think it is best. GOOD LUCK!!!

When I had my son I went through the same exact thing. I felt like i was having bad period cramps but nothing was happening on any kind of time table. I had this for almost 12 hours before i finally figured out that i was going into labor. if your child is not moving you need to call your doc because one never knows how the baby will handle labor. I highly suggest you call a doctor and make sure someone is with at all times just in case.
good luck!!

Call the Dr./hospital NOW and tell them the baby isn't moving! That is NOT a good sign, but not necessarily a bad sign either. It is, however, typically a BIG CONCERN to them. Letting them know, in case something else progresses from it, is never a bad thing. Whether there's contractions, cramping, water breaking, or not - not moving is not good.

PS: Water-Breaking can happen at anytime. The reason you get rushed to a hospital when your water breaks is because the baby's nice little non-breached world is now open to things like infection and/or bacteria.

oh boy, some of the answers on here, lol

I have a friend who has been 2 cm dialated since Thanksgiving.

'real' labor pains start in your lower back and go around front and all the way 'up' your stomach. it feels like someone is twisting your insides and trying to pull them out.
the period like cramps are just the BH's

the baby isnt moving a lot now because he/she is in the proper position to be born- you wont feel as much movement now as you did even a week ago.

Call the doctor, especially if it's your first child. My mom went through the EXACT same thing when she was in labor with me (I'm her first). The bad cramping is probably either actual contractions or Braxton-Hicks (practise contractions).

But better safe than sorry! Just call and ask for some advice on if and when you should go to the hospital.

Good Luck!

It sounds like the start of it to me. Very early labor. You've probably dialated to about 3 cm by now. Your water should break really soon.
If you are concerned call your OB/GYN or go to the hospital to get checked out.

You should see your doctor because it sounds like you are trying to go into labor. It's different for some people at different times. I would be concerned though.

Go take a HOT SHOWER and have the water hit your chest and see what happens.

For some reason, hot water hitting your breasts induces labor.
