Ok i just read a book, found out it was becomming a movie, watched the movie when it came out, and got so mad!
why you ask??
becuz i read the book and it was really good... i mean REALLY REALLY good!
and the movie TOTALLY messed it up! i mean this movie seemed like it had NOTHING to do with the book! it was like a whole diff story! the characters...well they didnt look like how they were described in the book. SO a while before i told my frendz that the books was good, and said thay they should read it... they didnt, but they saw the movie...they said it was bad, and now they say that i have bad taste in books! and voted me off of the school book and journalism committee! but my question is, am i the only on who has read a book that bacame a movie that was really bad?

honors to you , keep on reading !!!
I've also read some books , wonderful books.
and there have been some movies that don't even
come close to the book and i find myself going
hey there missing a part or what that's not what they
should look like or that character is not the same
and i can go on. Hollywood in my opinion is great for a
lot of things , but they cant capture what the writer
works hard on to get my imagination going.......

Voted you off? No way! That you read the book beforehand is awesome.
Have they ever read Stephen King? So few of his books have translated well to the big screen.
It happens all the time. When someone buys the rights to a book, they change things to suit their needs when it goes to the big screen. Even Harry Potter.
I've heard of people that wanted their names OFF the credits, because the story they wrote is totally different from what it turns out to be once it makes it to the theaters.
Maybe you should lend the book to a committee member - if they haven't read it, how can they say you have poor taste in THAT book? I know you know this, but you liked the BOOK not the movie. Sheesh. And does everyone have to like the same thing? I hope your group has diverse interests so everyone can learn from the experience.
Perhaps you can find reviews on line for both the book and the movie - maybe if they see words from critics they'll realize where you're coming from.

No, you're not the only one. Most books are not made into good movies. It's hard to fit every single detail of a book into a 2 hour long movie (or less). Or, sometimes they change the endings and so on. Really, it's unfortunate. Whenever you hear that a book is being made into a movie, ALWAYS read the book first. That way, the poor quality of the movie doesn't deter you from reading what could be a great book.

No - you aren't the first and you won't be the last.
If your friends have voted you off the school book and journalism committee I would be questioning on what basis this was done. The clue is in the title - book and journalism - not film !
How can they base their opinion of a book on someone else's interpretation of that book into a film? Not looking at or understanding your primary sources is extremely poor humanities and journalism practice.
It will probably be of no consolation to you, but you have done it properly. You have read the book and seen the film and formed independent opinions on each of them by having first-hand experience of them.
Ask your friends if they would expect to be able to form a proper critical analysis of Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet by watching the film West Side Story? The film is based on the play, but is an intepretation not a faithful adaption.

This is a very typical case in the situation of converting books to movies.
Try to remember that books are very different from movies and characters, background information, storylines etc. sometimes get lost in the gap.
Also, the movie-makers change things in a way that they think the audience will find more interesting. (Sometimes to be more visually interesting, maybe why they changed the looks of the characters.)
As for your friends voting you off the committee, I think that's wrong and they shouldn't jump to conclusions. There are many great books, but sometimes everything going for them gets lost in the translation to film.

I very rarely ever find a movie that is as good as the book it is based on. I fear the same is about to happen with "Bridge to Terabithia." You are not the only one who has seen a movie that totally ruins the greatness of the book it is based on.

no way! Have you seen the new version of Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightly? JUNK! They totally ruined the book! The ultimate version is the TV mini-series with Colin Firth.

The worst travesty of a movie from a book was Andre Norton's Beastmaster. The movie(s) are so far removed from the book that they do not warrant the title.
