Yes, your nail continues to grow. Generally a "fill-in" is every two weeks to cover the gap between new growth of nail and the acrylic nail edge that was against the cuticle. Gels and silk fiberwraps also need to be filled-in.

If done correctly and gently with proper acrylic (or gel or silk wrap), your nails will not get as badly damaged as they could be. If the person doing your nails uses the incorrect products and/or doesn't use the proper technique to protect your nails (such as improper use of a drummel or even just a file), they will be damaged. Damage can range from anything from molds and funguses to thin, weak or cracked nails.

If done correctly, upkept and cared for correctly, the nail underneath will still be healthy and strong when the artificial nails are removed the proper way (soaking, not clipping!).

I suggest trying to grow out your real nails. Use Sally's hard as nails or try getting your nails wrapped. I tried the acrylic nails. Your nails do grow, but very weak and split/crack. Also it will take forever to grow out your real nails healthy again. Your nails will also be sore for a while. Go natural!

Yes, yes they do. the acrylic nail will grow out from your cuticles with your real nail. This is why in a few weeks you need to get "fill ins" which is when they put more acrylice onto the bare surface of your new nail.

Yes they do still continue to grow under the acrylic nails.

Yes, the will grow underneath. Just like everyone else said, you have to get them filled about every 2 weeks. I have fake nails (acrylic nails). I can sometimes wait 3 weeks before getting them filled. It all depends on "perfect" you want them to look. When you finally get them taken off, your nails underneath are weak and brittle. The one thing that was suggested to me was to keep the acrylics on, and just get them trimmed occassionally when I want to get rid of them. I'll have huge gaps, but the nail that will be growing will be strong and healthy and will eventually be cut off (if I let my nails grow long enough) instead of having the acrylic taken off and my nails underneath being terribly weak.

They do, but can be damaged when you remove the fake nails. They can also be pretty brittle & dry. However, my mom got fake tips and when her nails got long she just started getting an acryric coating. If the person doing it is good, it looks a lot more natural than tips.

yes your own nails will grow under the fake ones. your own nails will get thinner and thinner each time you get a refill--they file the bed of your nails so the fake ones stay better. the refills are every 2 weeks and can be expensive

yes! they do, its kind of fun actually. When you go to get a "fill" they will complete the cuticle area with new acrylic so that it all blends in. The acrylic will move with the nail since it is bonded there.

Yes, but acrylic nails will actually destroy your own nails. Better to have them apply gel nails. They are much more natural looking, won't hurt your natural nails and they're quite strong!

Yes. That's why you have to get the nails filled every few weeks, because the artificial stuff grows out and leaves a gap at the base of your fingernail.
