Swift company is knowingly hiring them....if half of your work force can speak only broken English you have to suspect...they just get around it...if they wanted they could check out soc. sec. numbers but they don't...I used to work in a beef plant 25 years ago...the companies broke the ubions...it's dirty, difficult, dangerous work...the feds don't even have on site inspection of meat plants anymore...they are hiring slaves. I think the churches have a misdirected sense right and wrong

I think they should be put out of business for being so greedy. If Swift is so upset from losing business due to their illegla hiring, then maybe they should avoid hiring illegals and try to go the legal route. Besides, what are they so upset about? At least they didn't get fined for the whole thing. I think it's based on greed. As far as the Catholic Bishops. Well, a majority of hispanics are Catholic. What do you expect?

That surprises me--do you have a link? Swift had documents on their workers, so they are trying to stay within the law. They are probably mad because their plant was busted into by people in riot suits like there was a gang of drug selling gun runners in there. I never heard them say that they don't support immigration laws.

You shall not oppress an alien; you well know how it feels to be an alien, since you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt. (Exodus 23:9)

The émigré Holy Family of Nazareth, fleeing into Egypt, is the archetype of every refugee family. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, living in exile in Egypt to escape the fury of an evil king, are, for all times and all places, the models and protectors of every migrant, alien and refugee of whatever kind who, whether compelled by fear of persecution or by want, is forced to leave his native land, his beloved parents and relatives, his close friends, and to seek a foreign soil. (Exsul Familia, Pope Pius XII, 1952)

"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" (The Statue of Liberty)

The earth, this country, everything we have are gifts from God, which we are called to share with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

With love in Christ.
