Just say hey mom, I know how important it is to you that I be a nurse but that isn't my dream. Thats all.

Actually, I had to do the same thing ... my mom has been a nurse since before I was born, and I'm 26 now. I finally told her that being a nurse didn't give me the patient-to-staff contact that I wanted, and I chose to volunteer as an EMT.

Regardless of whether you hurt your mother's feelings or not, do what your heart tells you. You don't *have* to be a nurse if you don't want to be one. She may be hurt, but once she sees that you're happy in whatever field it is you finally choose, she should be happy for you.

Be yourself! It may be hard, but sit down with her and explain that you are unsure of what you want. You can take classes for two years at a lot of schools without having to declare a major, so tell her you have to explore your options, then start flipping through college handbooks and reading about classes. Take a few different ones that interest you and keep her informed of waht you are figuring out as you go along. She will hopefully be excited and supportive of you before you have to declare a major. If not, though, you can always pay your own way. No matter what, though, BE YOURSELF.

If you don't want to be a nurse, don't. It is your life and your future, and I am sure your mother will accept whatever you choose. If you don't know what you want to do, take a year off after high school as a transition. Get yourself a minimum wage job in the meantime. This is great incentive for finding out what you wanna do and doing it.

Your ma cannot choose your destiny and u can.
But think fast, cause the years fly by after highschool
Nursing is a dirty job and there are lots of risks in nursing like catching stuff.
Think of your favorite hobby and go from there.
Maybe writing...be a journalist, or drawing, be an artist etc.

Sweety, sometimes, like me, I'm 49, I still don't know what I want to be!! :-)

But, try and let your mom know your not sure yet what your goals are. It will come to you once your gone off to school.

Good Luck and remind mom that you may change your mind 30 times before getting a real interest.

Just tell her that your taking your basic courses, then once you have a better grip on what you want, tell her that you are really interested in what ever field much more interesting than nursing to you, if she really wants you to be happy then she will see your side of it, but be very mature about it.

Mothers know best/ Well maybe not totally. She needs to know that you need to do your own thing. She's wanting you to do what she wishes she could do. Or wants you to go with what has made her a Life. It's your Life. Live it. Explain how, even though you Love her? You wanna make your own life. You can do it!
