Actually the bleeding is not a true menstrual period just spotting. Once you have a true period you can not possibly be pregnant. The bleeding seen in early pregnancy is called implantation bleeding. So although it may seem like you really are having a period you could still be pregnant.

Yes it happened to my own mother. It made the doctor misjudge the due date, but luckily she knew when I was conceived , so she knew the doctors date was off by a month.
It also happened to my friend when she was pregnant. I think it is fairly common.
Nothing to worry about, but if you feel uneasy about call the doc.
