Throw away all of your paraphernalia (lighters, ashtrays, etc.) and quit smoking cold turkey from pack-a-day to zero cigarettes a day. I say zero because if you set any other number, then you may just say "well, why not this many? Or this many?" It's more likely a setup for failure.

Buy a billion packs of gum and pop a piece into your mouth whenever you have a craving. Keep it there until the craving has passed or flavor is gone, but chew another piece. Chew anything that makes a cig seem less appetizing.

Steer clear of routines that included smoking and feature-length movies that may have characters who smoke. They make cigarettes seem much more appetizing in movies, but maybe it's just sitting in the movie without one... who knows?

I liked that mayonnaise jar suggestion. That's pretty darn good. I'd add that you should tell everybody you're quitting. Otherwise people will think you're crazy for carrying a (hopefully) empty Mayo jar around. Then again, don't tell anybody... they'll think you're even crazier if it's full of cigarette butts, making it more embarrassing to smoke.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

What you describe is an addiction to nicotine. I agree it starts in your head; there is desire to stop smoking, and that is the important part. There are many different ways to quit, and often there are relapses, and new beginnings as you describe. The best way I know is to decrease gradually by allowing yourself less and less cigarettes per day in that way you are weening yourself of the nicotine. Once you are down to a less then 5 a day, it should be easy to go "cold turkey" by giving up let us say 3 cigarettes. When you have accomplished that do not go into any areas where there is smoking, or be with or near other smokers, until you are over the temptation to smoke. In time you will not be able to stand the smell of smoke it actually makes you sick. Then you will know you have made it. And you will be welcome to the non smoker's club. What is helpful is to find something to do with your hands, such as knitting or writing or any hobby to keep the hands occupied, also brushing your teeth often, instead of smoking, taking deep breaths, and seeing yourself as you wish to be a smoke free person . Best wishes for success

I quit about a year ago, it is still super hard. I read somewhere that you have to remove yourself from anything that reminds you of smoking.....which for me was everything! I used the patch, it does help with the physical withdrawals from the nicotine, use that again and also keep a journal and find a chat room online for quitters. Keep praying and good luck, you will feel better in time. And it is ok to relapse with one every once in a while, even though that is against popular belief.

Well, i was a smoker too, i suggest instead of quitting, do a daily/weekly cut down.

A pack a day is consider a heavy consumtion and when u draw back immediately, ur body reacts hence you will become frustrated, and when u are frustrated it's no good, as you might lose your determination.

So cut down 2-3 sticks and reward urself, also let your friends and loved ones knw that u are quitting so they can give you some support! Good luck!

Keep trying the other methods, but when you find yourself at a store that sells cigarettes, take the couple of dollars you have and buy some candy or a new thing of eyeshadow.
>>>Try to calculate how much money in a week, month, year, or whatever you spend on cigarettes, it'll help chase you away.
>>>Find a friend to do it with you
>>>Try starting small one cigarette less the 1st day, 2 the next, etc.
GOOD LUCK! && good for you!!!

Hi,

I quit this time last year having had a 30 a day habit. I'd tried and failed with allsorts until I a friend recommended this program - see below.

It also came with a 100% money back guarantee and has a 90% success rate - can't say fairer than that!

All the best.

Hey!!! I'm back!! Remember me? Girl, I can honestly say that I have never smoked a day in my life but I do think that everyone has their weaknesses and mine is caffiene and cheese. It is serious when you want to lose weight. But, I think you can do anything if you ask The Lord to help you and you put all your faith in Him. Sometimes what we think is the right time isn't the right time because He has a different plan for us. I'll pray for you too. You'll be alright! God bless you!!!!

Hello I'm a nurse and a Christian. With this type of habit, you will have to pace yourself. Setting a goal is a good first step. I would recommend you find someone to stop with you for support. I would also try to find a local support group to keep you motivated. Remember winners never quit. So don't give up no matter how many times you attempt to quit. You can do it. Hang in there.
