Aside from Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Wide Wide World, The Lamplighter and Little Lord Fauntleroy which I already found. It has to be sentimental, i.e. female domestic fiction, so no Huck Finn etc.
Thanks!!!!

Anne of Green Gables...my favorite! Although the setting is Canada not the U.S. But any girl would love it. It's a whole series.

"Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott

Alcott's characters are four sisters in a New England family during the American Civil War. This was one of my favorite books as a young reader. It has been made into films several times, so Hollywood must like the story, too.

Happy reading!

- Jo's Boys by Louisa May Alcott (it centres on children but has a domestic scene provided by a maternal figure)
- Samantha: An American Girl by Susan S. Adler
- A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett (the book is set in the UK, unlike the film, but well worth a read)

Early 20th century?
History as it truely was. My own life with other stories I have saved for 40 years. All tied together with a family I call WEED.
If you like true stories check my site at www.wizeoldphart.com for a preview of "MY" books. True stories of kids growing up during the 40's and 50's. Pee your pants funny with a few tears. After the first book I had so many emails from my readers that I wrote the second. THE GOOD WEEDS and THE FAMILY WEED.
Thanks, Wayne

has free online access to this book (and probaby many others)

I read the book many years ago when I was very young. I can't remember a lot of details but then entire feel and atmosphere of the novel has stuck with me for over forty years.
