600 MHZ? 1GB may not speed up your computer too, too much though it could help. You'll still be able to use the internet pretty well at least.

DIMM = Desktop

SODIMM = Notebook

Other than that, just make sure it's PC-133.

Not advisable to upgrade but the fact of the mater is more RAM would only cause the computer to freez up.. One gig would overwhelm the CPU ... I understand that you really want the RAM upgrade so I will help you the best that I know how. SDRAM might be cheaper and the RDRAM would cost an arm and a leg. Go with cheaper so you can save a buck or two.

It will depend on the number of slots you have but unless you have one of the newest P-III computers you will only be able to use 256MB memory modules in that computer. That would limit it you to 768MB of RAM in most P-III computers. If your computer has both SDram and DDR RAM slots then you very well can put 512MB RAM modules in the computer.
You are not going to high end game or video edit with that machine. You will do just fine with 512MB or 768MB of RAM, or spend your money on an entry grade computer (around $300).
256MB PC133 RAM goes for about $50 per stick shopped..
I would not spend money on new memory on that computer.

use ddr ram at least from now on. ddr2 is preferable though. this will probabley mean you need to get a new motherboard, so just save urself the effort and invest in a new system.
