Well,............. 1) Cardona is about 60 miles from the centre of Barcelona. Plan your journey into the centre. Take a train if there is one. By car, get directions to the cathedral where there are good underground car parks.

2) Get a good guide book such as Lonely Planet or Time Out and plan what you want to see.

3) Look at the bus turistic. (see answers)

4) There is as already mentioned, a street crime problem. The thieves are rarely violent. They are easily recognised as they are mainly gypsies, both local and Roumanian. Beware flower sellers even those in churches and the cathedral. There are tribes / families of gypsies who live by pickpocketing.

5) Dress to look like a local; or in formal business clothes. Be aware of your surroundings and protect your personal space. Do not worry about pickpockets, just remember 'If they were not sheep; they would not be shorn'.
Barcelona is no more dangerous than any other city of its size.

6) If you are in Carmona, think about hiring a car and visiting the mountains.

7) Most restaurants and bars have business menus at lunch time. These 'menus del dia' are fantastic value.

8) Restaurant tips: Caracoles is open all week. Useful on Mondays. Sit at the bar.

9) For a local tip, try Can Culleretes (sp?) Calle Quintana.

Most people who visit BCN think that it is fantastic.

Have a great time!

You must go to Malaga as well! It is a great place to visit! I went to Malaga for 3 weeks this summer. It is on the southern tip of Spain. The beaches arent the best in the world but the partyin and the Med. Sea is wonderful. The nightlife doesnt shut down until 6 am every night!

I have been there twice and I preferred it my second time. I love the place, but you just need to be very careful of pickpockets. The architecture is amazing, love the food, love the parks and loved going out. Watching Barcelona play football is a must - was a great experience.

I live in Barcelona and the don'ts would have to be: don't walk about swinging your camera/wallet/camcorder... (but that one's obvious), don't go to the bars in La Rambla (they charge a fortune)
Do: Do get on the Touristic bus (it's great for seeing all of the city) Do take lots of money as the shopping is great, do go to at least on night club i.e Pacha. Do take a trip up the cost and see the little villages. Do try to speak a little Catalan or Spanish (even if it's only 'please and thank you'.
And DO have a great time (that one it guaranteed!!)

Try and take in a Barcelona game, the atmosphere's incredible. Walk right to the bottom of Las Ramblas, across the road on the harbour side is some wicked nightlife....Enjoy my friend.

DON'T: go to "Las Ramblas" all tourist go there that is why all the pickpocketers in the world are there. And...why do all tourist think this street is so "cool"...I hate it...it's the worst street in town!!!!!!
DON'T: forget to visit all the Gaudi's buildings

DO: enjoy yourself,
DO: avoid "tourist" areas that are on all f....guides

Ps: by the way...the BREMON hotel is really nice, good choice!! though not too close to Barcelona.

Barcelona is a beautiful city.
You have to see the Ramblas, Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, and...and...and... The best is to get a travelers guide. They do nice side seeing tours with open buses.
Barcelona a worth a trip.

You must both do a guided tour of the Nou Camp stadium. It is sensational.

The fountains in the square are amazing. You know the ones, they were used on the Freddie Mercury video. Best seen after dark when you can see all the coloured lights on them.

We were warned about pickpockets but had no trouble at all. Just be careful where you keep your money etc & beware of people trying to distract you as they may be after your bag. We had a good time & got by without knowing much Spanish.
