The U.S. is supposed to be a Republic.
Unfortunately, at some point some genius started instilling the gullible with the notion that we are a Democracy.
Democracy in its basic form is considered mob rule, in that the majority gets what it wants - not what it needs.
The best analogy I've heard describing Democracy is "Two wolves and a sheep deciding what they're having for dinner."
If we were to get back to being a Republic we wouldn't have all the problems we have today with our government, because all the laws we need are already in place - they only need to enforce them properly.
Instead, they pass more and more new laws every day, encroaching upon the Bill of Rights in order to further their own agenda.
The more laws a country has, the more corrupt its government is.

The US is a Republic.
Dont beat up the Electoral College now folks, if you get your way. That would mean every large city in the US would be voting for the president, that would leave the folks in the smaller states and rural areas to have no voice. The Electoral College is very fair, you all know what majority of people live in cities ? People who wants services and social spending, another words the poor and minorities aka Democrats !

No. The US is a Republic. That means we are supposed to be a nation of laws not of men. In a Democracy the majority rules on everything. In the US we are required to follow the law not disregard it. If a law is found to be bad or outdated the law needs to be changed.

No, the US uses the term democracy loosely! In actuality, we are not a democracy at all, and our founding fathers were afraid of one!
We are a Representative Republic! If we were a true democracy, Bush would have lost the 2000 election as he lost the popular vote!

No, in order for it to be a true democracy, everyone would have a chance to voice their opinions in one big gathering of the masses, instead of through representatives. We would also have a direct vote instead of an electoral vote.

Liberals and Conservatives agree -- usually: The Electoral College prevents it being a Democracy. The best we can do, because of that crooked little organization, is "Republic."
