I assume your girlfriend wants to take it and has asked you to purchase it because she is uncomfortable.

In the UK the answer is no. She needs to go herself to the chemist/doctors/family planning clinic/nhs walk in centre or local A&E. From the chemist she will have to pay up to £26 otherwise just a normal perscription charge. She can take the pill at home and it is usually just one tablet.

I keep editing this post because more incorrect information is being posted. It is not necessary to fill out a form to purchase the emergency contraceptive tablet from a pharmacy, some chemists may do this but it is not the law.

Looks like it depends on where you live, and given 'the pharmacist will want to counsel you,' I don't know how willing they'll be to hand it over to a guy. Call around.

Nice of you to volunteer.

"Where Can I Get It?
plan B can now be purchased at most pharmacies across Canada without a doctor's prescription. That means you can put plan B in action even faster. It's behind the counter so you'll have to ask the pharmacist for it."

"If you live in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Maine, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts or Washington, you can get Plan B® without a prescription at some pharmacies; however, you should call your pharmacy in advance to make sure they offer and stock Plan B®"

"So I can get it at a chemist’s?

Yes, nowadays quite a lot of pharmacists (though not all) will supply it to you ‘over-the-counter,’ without a doctor’s prescription.

But they will make a charge for it, currently (2006) £22. However, there are a few areas of the UK where special local arrangements have been made to provide it for free.

The pharmacist will certainly wish to counsel you first, and to make sure you understand about how to take the PCP, and what to do if it doesn’t work."

Depends what country you are in. If its America sorry I'm of no help, if its the UK I'm a pharmacy assistant and cant tell you exactly. In the UK the morning after pill can be purchased at a pharmacy only by the person taking the pill. She has to fill in a form so that the pharmacist knows its going to be effective for her and then she pays a charge of £25.00. Alternatively she can get a prescription from the doctor which you can take to the pharmacy for her and take her dispensed prescription to her. How that's of some help to you.

No offence intended but if she is old enough to lay down and have sex then she is old enough to go and get the morning after pill. I wouldn't be hanging around on here searching for answers. You need to take the pill within 72 hours of the 'event'.

I am sure you can get them over the counter now. They cost around £27, if you are in the UK.

No i am afraid not,the doctor will want to know when intercourse took place, and to infrom your girlfriend of the effects of this pill, from experince years ago i cannot say it makes one feel pleasant and it induces a period.Tell your friend to get proper contraceptive out,the morning after pill is not a "contraceptive".

Also it needs to be taken with 75hours,otherwise other methods would be used and as i am not a doctor i do not know what this proceedure wouldd be.

nope...doc's or the brooke will want to talk her thru the risks of having the morning after pill and make sure she's not getting it 4 sum1 else by watching her take it. 4 some people it culd be dodgy to take bcuz they may react to it. if ur gf went in 2 hospital after a reaction 2 it they wuldn't kno unless u told the world she'd taken it. just tell her 2 grow a back bone n get it herself!! the doc's hardly guno tell any1 now r they?

You can't but she can. In the US you can go to your nearest pharmacy and ask for the EC (emergency contraceptive) pharmacist. She will then have to fill out a few forms and they will give her 2 pills that need to be taken 12 hours apart. They also have to be taken with in 72 hours of intercourse. The early she takes them the better.

In the UK she will need to get it herself. This is especially important as she would need to let the pharmacist know of any allergies she has or any other medications she is taking which could affect the morning after pill.

According to an article in the paper only a few days ago, no he can't & if his girlfriend sends one of her female friends to get it for her she's got to pretend it's for herself. The author of the article said the law should be changed. Sorry I can't remember which paper it was in - I read Times, Independent & Mail. I'm assuming you live in Britain.

yes you can go in to chemist and buy it over counter or go to nearest Brook centre (family planning) whilst there they will sort out reliable safe contreception as you need it from the sound of it taking a risk is silly but can easily happen. You can go to brook with her by the way both your responsibility.
