I got recently got a ticket 2 weeks ago in Wisconsin. I live in Illinois. Today, I got a few letters in the mail about attorneys asking if I needed them to appear in court with me.
My parents have no clue I got this ticket, so I was wondering if it would be beneficial to hire one. One of them said it's possible that they may just take it off of my insurance all together and driving record, as well. If it goes well, would they mail something to my house?
How common is it that hiring an attorney would actually in fact, lower my citation fine and insurance?
...Let's keep in mind- my fine is $501.00...

You must have been flying, darlin'.

Chances: The only reasonable answer is "depends." Depends what you did, depends how snotty you were to the cop, depends on the judge's mood and what he/she had for breakfast, depends what time your trial is, depends on your priors.

You might...MIGHT be able to get it knocked down. It might get thrown out entirely if the citing officer doesn't show. Doesn't often happen, but ya never know.

You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Plead Not Guilty most of the time they won't spend the money for a trial for a misdemeanor and will drop the charge, and if you do pay the fine pay by check and pay 3or 4 dollars over they will have to send you a check for what you overpaid, don't cash it, throw it away that way they can't write the transaction off and it won't go onto your insurance.

dont pay it they wont come across state lines over a misdemeaner but only if you never plan to go back to that state. i live in texas right next to the louisianna boarder i would laugh if i got a ticket there i would give them the finger and go back home

I'd be asking how much the lawyer and court fees are going to be ... it may cost you more to fight it than just pay the fine ...
