I am doing some research and I was wondering what you call your partners. I don't mean like so me girl or guy you just have dated, but your life partner. If you are not able to marry and cant be wives or husbands what do you consider each other to be? life partners, girlfriends, boyfriends, not just lovers I am sure. I hope I asked that question right. and by the way, I am not be gay but I am so for the gay comunity. so this isn't to hurt or offend anyone and their life style choices.

The question is worded just fine, no affence taken, you are totally cool about wanting to know a very legitimate question, bless your heart... I have been with my partner for 12 years and we have used several different things. I would have to say that it really depends on the person we are intruducing eachother too...

Husband
Partner
Lover
Better Half
Ball and Chain

Like I said, just depends on the circumstance and the formality of the introductions.

Hope this helps your research...

Be good and take care

I call my girlfriend "my girlfriend". I loathe the term "partner" because it sounds so genderless and makes me think of business partner. I want everyone to know that my girlfriend is the love of my life, not my chess partner or tennis partner. And "life partner" just sounds so cheesy.

However, when I marry her, if it is legal or not, I'm going to call her my wife and/or my spouse. Just because the marriage may not be recognized by the US goverment doesn't make us any less married. If we get up in front of all our friends and say our vows, then I consider myself married.

Boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands or wives. Just as straight people call their partners. Two of those terms are restricted by law to be called, honestly I don't give a damn about that law, if I'd want to call my partner my wife, I will.

it is actual incredibly precise and much less apt to charm to interest than words like lover(meaning a courting it quite is the two disposable and based strictly on intercourse), boyfriend(which does no longer have a element to it that recommend any style of durability), husband(meaning gender roles), and actually it incredibly is a lot shorter than companion. i individually use the words different-0.5, mate(as in lifemate, no longer the British/Aussie slang for pal), companion(besides the reality that we've been by using a committment ceremony it is not legally regarded) or companion(meaning in all significant issues he's as significant and his opinion counts as much as my very own).

My partner is transgender, female-to-male.

Here goes....

* In my social work classes I call him my 'partner' because everoyne is a partner according to the social workers apparently

* With people who don't know that he's trans, he's my boyfriend, or now my fiance.

* With people who know him, know that he's trans, and are adjusted to it, he's my boyfriend or fiance.

*When I'm talking to someone who met him as my girlfriend but doesn't know hes trans, he's usually my 'other half' to avoid pronouns.

* Other names he has gone by: Pumpkin, Jerk, asshole, babe, hunny, "man stuff"

And next year we will be getting married (though it will be legal because by then he will legally be a man) and he will be my husband, also known as my love, my soulmate, and my everything.

Thank you for the question, but just so you know its not a 'lifestyle choice', or a 'preference' its just who we are, or orientation. And, because it is legal for gay/lesbians to marry in Canada (where I'm from) I call her my wife. :-)

I don't feel like my husband is correct, because I can not marry in my state.
I don't like my partner because it sounds too business like.
I don't like boyfriend because I've been with him for 20 years.

I prefer to use my guy. It rolls off the tongue, rhymes, and its easy to type.
