They will usually keep you after you reach 4 cm, because you are then cosider to be in active labor. It can take weeks to reach 4 cm, but once you are in active labor they say the average is 1-2 cm an hour. That is only an average though. You could go slower or faster. Good Luck. You will do fine, and it will be worth it when you are holding your baby.

You usually have to be 3-4 cm before they keep you. But it also depends on your contractions. If they are regular and about 5 minutes apart, don't let them send you home. I think it's different for everyone and every doctor. Wishing you the best of luck.

After 4 cm they keep you at the hospital.

Every pregnancy is different. I was admitted at 4 for my first, he came within 3 hrs.. My 2nd, 12 yrs later was 6 wks. early, no dialation, but the water had broke. They tried to induce labor, didn't work. I was miserable for 24 hrs., then they took her C-sec. because of her health factor. She is a beautiful today at 12 yrs. old. Best wishes.

They waited till my friend was 3 cm before they would take her. But I am guessing each hospital is different.

When they strip membranes, it makes you cramp.
Sometimes its hard to tell if its cramping or contractions.

When you stand, does it feel really heavy there?
