Heading into high school next year and I want to know what is required. And as a side question, what does the GPA count for?

Honestly it depends on the school you go to and the classes you take. Acing Advanced Placement (college-level) classes is much harder to do than acing remedial classes. GPA's are usually weighted to reflect this, but keep in mind that taking challenging classes will really help when applying to colleges.

As far as actually getting A's, I think the best thing you can do besides putting effort into getting your work done well and on time is to actually pay attention during class and have a positive attitude about it. The hardest classes for me have been the ones where I haven't tried to enjoy what I was learning, and it is so much easier if you want to be there.

Good luck!

Just go to class every day, pay attention and do your homework. thats all I can suggest for high school. Oh, and join the debate team. I wish I had done that now... anyway, a gpa is a grade point average. It means, that an

A = 4.0
B = 3.0
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0

The gpa is the average of your grades for your classes. Lets say you take 6 classes each semester in high school, and for your first semester you achieve 3 A's, 2 B's and 1C

3 A = 4.0 x 3 = 12
2 B = 3.0 x 2 = 8
1C = 2.0 x 1 = 2

total is 22/6 classes = 3.66 so that would be a B average for the semester, which is quite good. Stay at a 3.5 or better and you will be good to get into college and do other academic things with your life.

Best wishes!

1. Near-perfect attendance.
2. Do all your homework, do it well, hand it in on time.
3. Participate in classroom activities (i.e. raise your hand to answer questions).
4. Actively learn the material being taught.
5. Ask questions in class when you need something clarified.
6. Do well on the tests, quizzes, exams.
7. Do any and all extra credit.
8. Be prepared for class! That means you need to have your books, papers, pen and pencil with you!
9. Sit in the front row, so you won't be distracted by other students.

It's just another way of saying what your grades are. I'm heading to highschool soon to! Just study and do all your homework. If you make As you'll get a high GPA. (As really aren't that hard to get. Just do not procrastinate so that you have time to check your work)

you need to get As on your classes. be careful about attendance too because you may not get credit for a class if you pass a certain number of unexcused absences. you should take as many AP or honor classes. but going to class every day doesnt mean you'll get an A. if you're absent, just make sure to know what you have to turnin. most serious classes have a schedule of notes or a syllabus.

Your GPA gets looked at by college admissions officers. That's only one person who looks at your GPA.

To get a really good GPA all that I can say is to work hard and study as much as you can, but don't overdo it.

of course you gotta work hard and all that stuff, but make sure to take challenging courses. sometimes it'll be better if you get a b in the hardest ap class on campus than if you get an a in a regular class. sign up for hard classes.

Grade point average is determined by effort and work. That is the only way to get a high g.p.a.
