Turn the gift giving into a scavenger hunt.....the mom and dad-to-be and guests have to figure out the clues to find the next gift. Be creative.... This also gives you the chance to gift unusual gifts that most moms and dads don't get but that they will appreciate once baby is here!!
If the shower is being held in a house....you could have clues that lead the "hunter" to a new gift. A clue attached to that gift could lead to another. The mommy and daddy-to-be could be the "generals", if need be. They could send their "troops" to the destinations....and they could bring back their "booty" and the new clue. Mommy has to solve the clue and send out another "trooper". Etc. Be creative with the clues.
IE:
Clue 1: "The nursery is where parents think the baby will be....but so many nights you'll find yourself watching TV. Baby is up and awake as can be. Where would you find something to entertain Mommy?"
(By the TV/Entertainment Center in the hostess's house there could be a moses basket with a wrapped DVD set for mommy sitting in it. Like the Sex and The City Series **I know I watched the last two seasons when my first child was adjusting to "nighttime" sleeping.)
Attached to the fetched DVD set.....would be
Clue #2.
"You think you've got everything you need. But there are so many things that book did not heed. A delicacy has been prepared just for your child....in the scheme of the nursery it has been styled. A dessert that's not sweet....not edible at all. Find it where the other desserts are, it is standing real tall."
(In the dining room....where the shower desserts are sitting out there will be a diaper cake filled with all the things mommy and daddy usually don't get (ie: gas drops, teething gel, diaper cream, saline spray for stuffy noses, nail clippers, lavender bath for relaxing baby, a baby massage kit, etc.).
****And So On And So Forth****
Just an idea. May be silly.

put diaper pins in rice, blindfold people and make them try ti fish out as many as they can in a few minutes.
If you have the access, do what I did- have a diaper keg party. Sounds weird, but it was fun. We bought a keg for the shower (on a Saturday), and asked all of those who would be drinking to bring a package of any size diapers. We had tons of fun, they all got drunk, and my son has diapers all the way to size 4. You can exchange for other sizes or better brands at places like wal-mart, k-mart, etc. My baby is 5 months old and I havent bought a pack of diapers yet. :-D

Co-ed? I thought ladies had these things to have "lady time"..I mean there was three men at my baby shower, but it was my husband (who should be there) my brother and my dad. No guys were invited, but as far as games there is always gift bingo. That envolves making a blank bingo "grid' and having the guests write in each square what they think you will get, and as you open your presents, they play bingo with their sheets and you give away prizes for the first three bingos or something. That way everyone willl pay attention when the gifts are being opened.

The poopy diaper game. You get some candy bars and melt them in little newborn diapers. People pass them around and can smell or taste them and have to figure out type of candy bar. It is totally disgusting but it is pretty fun!
