If it's that internet website type that just promises a bunch of new, free things. There can be several ways they can pay to enter you into contests. Actually, visiting the site. It DEFINITELY looks like one of the ones that would follow the shady practices I shall describe (though it may possibly be the site of an accentric trillionaire, but I doubt it.)
Typically that will:
A: Sell your email address to spammers.
B: Force you to download trojans that download more junk.
C: Sign up with thier partners using your credit card (no hassle free trial?)
D: Record your IP address for future use.
That's how they keep it 'free'.

I've never been to that website, but will def check it out.
From what i know all awhile, these free web site, they ear their dough but getting sponsors and advertisers to pay a certain fee.
It's call the pulling media, getting people to be attracted into the site hence they see the ad and the more eyeballs they better the result. (just like google they can track by the "per click system", their client actually pay for person who clicks on their ad)
And that's how they maintain and able to keeps giving away free stuff. :D

There is also many yahoo groups dedicated to freecycling. There is no catch. Usually you can give things away or take things off peoples hands when they no longer want them. It's a great way to get rid of the clutter that invades all of our homes.
