This is a very serious question. I`m not "liberal bashing" here. Can anyone explain to me and the rest of us why the "left" always seems to defend anti-civilization forces at every instance? ( Gititmo, Saddam`s hanging, Tookie...etc...) Whether it`s the police officers, laws, government, or the good of mankind, liberals always seem to side with the adversary. I could offer my opinion but this is Yahoo Questions and I want to know what you think....Well ???

The liberal theory goes that if we had treated them right, the terrorists wouldn't have had to resort to terrorist acts. Similarly with murderers, the liberal theory goes that if poverty and other anomic aspects of society were not in the murderer's environment, he would've turned out completely different. Liberals also then to prefer rehabilitation to retribution, because they believe in the outcome of successful rehabilitation. I need to point out that I personally come from a conservative bias, and that my explanation is an oversimplification of what goes through the mind of a liberal. Also, I dislike these labels. But like you, I marvel at the voices who seem to be on the side of our enemies.

Hey, I think we can both get more insight by reading through the questions and answers of the Underground Man. He seems to articulate well.

I do not believe liberals are drawn to terrorists, mass murderers, et cetera. Liberals want to ensure the same rights for all, including due process, and let's face it, the average law-abiding citizen never gets into a situation where such rights are denied.

For example, the ACLU, which has gotten a bad reputation in past years, was founded to guarantee rights to all. Back in the 1980s, the ACLU defended the rights of farmers in the mid-West who were losing their land to big takeovers, and more recently, it defended homeowners where cities were taking their homes to sell to condo and strip mall builders so as to increase tax revenues. But these causes are never publicized. The news media always looks for, and reports, the worst--in the ACLU, liberals, and everything else.

I've heard and seen the liberal explanation that they are protecting the rights of all humans and they may really believe that. But if you look at the results, it just isn't true. They have protected rights so much that a criminal has more rights than the law abiding citizen. The criminal has to be given another chance, let them back out among us to harm other people again. They are violating the rights of the law abiding citizen in the interests of the criminals and claim to be protecting us? What crap!

For the most part I think you hit the nail on the head though. They are antii everything that makes our world civilized and as a result our civilization has been going downhill. Look at the violence we have in our schools now because of their kinder, gentler approach to life. Look at the children who have been hurt by the freedom given child molesters because the liberals want us to let them back out on the streets. In short I think the average liberal is short sighted and filled with hatred for anything or anybody who does not conform to their beliefs. Despite their claims they are the first to try to censor opposition and they are the first to make hate fiiled slurs as seen in the responses you already have.

To share something that to me epitomizes the difference between the liberal and conservative mind set. After Hurricane Katrina a group of us traveled to New Orleans to help. In the two weeks we were there busting our tails trying to save lives we saw hundreds of conservative church groups giving out free food and water. The only liberal groups I saw were the ones on television making speeches. None of the liberals were there helping us trying to save lives, they were too busy telling the world how awful everybody was. You wouldn't believe the level of disgust the citizens of New Orleans had for those speech making hypocrites.

SOME TIMES its very hard to answer a simple question,i think your question is one among them.in these world every thing happends whether it is good or bad has two view points, some acknolodges the reality and acts accordingly and others may be so called liberal mined take or side with the adversry, they just lament on repraisesals of the future if a particular action has been taken on some hot or tenous issues.that may be one reason.

I don't think that liberals are evil or anything, but I do think that they have a skewed view of our enemy, thinking that if we just leave them alone, they'll leave us alone. They can be delusional and somewhat stubborn, but I feel that, for the most part, their hearts are in the right place.

But the heart isn't what is needed in today's world; it's brains, common sense and often a big set of cojones. I would love to live in a world that is governed by the principles that liberals believe in, but unfortunately, it doesn't exist; it's called "Utopia."

Not that they're stupid or unintellegent, but sometimes, trying to make the world "feel good" is just a Don Quixote quest.

"defend anti-civilization forces at every instance..."? You have an odd perception of things. Even if I wrote out an explanation, I really don't think it would do any good.

In short, it's about concern for compassion, being civilized in the real sense, respect and dignity for individual human beings vs. supporting institutional violence and governmental brutality against human beings in the name of 'law and order'.

I don't know what your views are, but if your idea of "civilization forces" are Guantanamo Bay, racial profiling, unchecked police power, the Iraq War then you'll never understand.
