Why don't you research the career of Art Therapy (that's art and psychology put together). I wanted to become an Art Therapist but I changed my mind a few years ago and now I am on the path to becoming a School Psychologist. Anyways, just go to any search engine and type in Art Therapy and the sites will tell you how art heals, helps, uplifts, and brings out the creativeness in people who need it the most. Hope this helps!

Art is very personal, like religion, but unlike religion, through art one can express personal feelings, emotions, views and fantasies with one's work. I think art serves as a "messenger," which then again, brings a different message (abstract--sometimes) to each (different)art-lover, because each of us regard art-work from one's own different angle(s). Thank god there is still so much diversity in the world, hence I would not regard art as being meaningless!
Art can be very enlightening (I think is a better word than uplifting) and yes, is indeed very self absorbing for both the artist and the art-lover. When an artist paints a picture or sculptures a statue or whatever, the result is his/her own unique creation. When an artlover analyses a creation then (if serious art-lover) he/she becomes self-absorbed wtih their interpretation of the same.

Art is a good therapeutic method for everyone as through one's self absorption, one explores one's own creativity, fantasy etc. and is valuable time-out from today's dog-eat-dog society or a good full-time vocation

Children learn how to draw from a very young age, they love music, they love dancing and playing. Art is really a peaceful and creative method of self-development!

Good luck!

hi
i used to think art was for toffee nosed people
as i grew older i started finding that i myself started appreciating certain paintings and sculptures
when trying too think what the purpose of art is don't just think about what the person viewing the art gets from it .
try thinking about what the person creating the actual peace of art gets as-well.
I'm pretty sure that most artist don't create art for other people just too look at.
there must be a certain satisfaction it being able to create a nice picture just as there is for a carpenter creating a table
how does the artist feel whilst creating there masterpiece
stressed,relaxed,happy,sad
hope this helps

It's definitely theraputc, cathartic, and very calming. I'm not great at expressing myself verbally, but through art so much can happen. I was an art major in college and it not only helped me express a few of my feelings and thoughts, but it also helped to give me an escape. Viewing artwork is very calming as well - you just get lost in disecting images or admiring colors and figures. Some people need visual stimulation - it's quite thought provoking.

Expression, or atleast it used to be. A good piece of art should spark feelings in you or maybe not. Some art you can get exactly what the artist was thinking, while some you can't. It's hard to find good art these days though.

It can have various uses. Here are three:

I sometimes find a trip to a museum is soul cleansing.

Art can show a person that various people have different ways of looking at or experiencing the same thing, and this is something valuable to learn.

Art can be entertaining--funny, moving, awe inspiring, sad, etc.

Arts purpose may be to shock us, to make us feel better, it may be to help the artist communicate. I have done a project on Art therapy. As I would love to do this for a living, but have got caught up in Sociology!

It serves many purposes. It gives food for thought, it can please the eye, it can express an opinion, induce certain feelings and emotions, or simply just give an interesting impression. A world without any kind of art would be a very boring, colorless one.

Please define ART - music, painting, sculpture or something else?

Art defined by me (and what the hell do i know) is what absorbs me into deep thought. For me music is art, i don't play it i listen carefully - i drift - i cry (not literally but hey it can be emotional) - i thrash my head - i analyse lyrics - i love it!

Art is pure pleasure in many forms and my script is getting too deep for me now.......gonna go and listen to my guitar tunes.
